Mechanical Design

THe Mechanical Design course introduces the student to computer-aided drafting (CAD) and examines the hardware that makes up a CAD/CAM workstation and covers the computer operating system (Microsoft Windows) that enables the equipment to function as a unit. The course shows how to use drafting software to set up drawings by constructing lines, circles, arcs, shapes, geometric constructions, and text. Students will use display and editing techniques to obtain information about their drawings and work with drawing files. This course also introduces recommended drafting standards for students to properly preparing drawings with AutoCAD 2D and 3D software. Students who elect to take Mechanical Design will receive a free copy of Pro/E Desktop Solid Modeling software provided by PTC for educational use on their personal home computers. This software when interfaced to a CAD/CAM program will allow students to create parts using our shops computer control machines. Making copies of this software is a violation of copyright laws.
