Allied Health
The Allied Health program is designed to promote careers in health care & to permit graduates to pursue postsecondary education. In addition, the program requires a concentration of planned courses in math & science. The health occupational core instruction includes planned courses in medical terminology, human body, diseases and procedures, clinical laboratory procedures, basic clinical skills, aseptic techniques, OSHA regulations, and infection control. There is also a clinical component required for this program; an internship experience at Memorial Hospital. Health Occupations
The Health Occupations course introduces concepts of basic human needs, health/illness continuum, and basic personal care skills. It includes theory with skills demonstrated in a lab under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The role of the nursing assistant in a long term care facility, as well as working with various populations is discussed. Upon successful completion of this course, the candidate is eligible to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) Examination for certification, and listing, in the Pennsylvania Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry. Dental Assisting Students in Dental Assisting learn a variety of skills that will enable them to become a dental assistant, dental laboratory technician, and/or pursue a career as a dental hygienist. The major areas of study in the course include: dental radiology, anatomy and physiology, dental materials, infection control procedures and standard precautions, manipulation of dental instruments, and chairside dental assisting. The teaching of Dental Assisting students parallels that of other assisting professions in the medical workforce. |
